Foot, ankle and lower-limb conditions

The information below is general and does not replace an individual assessment or medical advice.

Heel & arch

Plantar fasciitis & heel pain

Heel discomfort can have several causes. We assess when it occurs, recent changes in activity, footwear, strength and foot mechanics before discussing management options. Shockwave therapy may be discussed if symptoms have persisted.

Ingrown toenails

A nail edge pressing into surrounding skin can become painful and inflamed. Care ranges from reducing pressure and treating the nail conservatively to a minor procedure for recurring cases.

Plantar warts

Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus and may spread or become painful on weight-bearing areas. Assessment can confirm the presentation. SWIFT microwave therapy may be discussed when it is a suitable option.

Achilles pain is often linked with changes in load and tendon capacity. Management may include activity modification, a progressive strengthening program and footwear advice. Shockwave therapy may be discussed for some persistent cases.

When to seek help

Do not ignore sudden or severe symptoms

Seek urgent medical care for a sudden inability to bear weight, a suspected fracture, severe swelling, spreading redness, fever, a deep wound, or a foot that becomes unusually pale, blue, cold or numb.

People with diabetes or reduced circulation should seek prompt advice for wounds, blisters, colour changes or signs of infection.
