Shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves applied through the skin over a painful tendon or soft-tissue area. It is not the first step for every problem. At Coburg Podiatry it may be considered when heel, Achilles or other tendon symptoms have not settled with simpler care, and only after an assessment of what is driving the pain.

What we look at

A thorough, practical assessment

  • How long the pain has been present and what you have already tried
  • Whether the discomfort sits in a tendon, the heel or another soft-tissue area
  • Activity, footwear and load that may be keeping symptoms going
  • Health history that could make shockwave therapy unsuitable, including pregnancy or a broken area of skin

How we can help

A plan that fits your circumstances

  • An assessment before shockwave therapy is recommended
  • A clear explanation of what a session involves, including brief discomfort during treatment
  • The number of visits is planned around your presentation, not a fixed course for everyone
  • Activity advice afterwards, alongside other care such as load changes, exercises or footwear where relevant
